Through trial and error over thousands of years, we’ve done something amazing: we’ve made sand think!

How did we work out that by melting it, adding a few impurities, and arranging it precisely at unimaginably small scales, we would create microchips — the foundation of the modern world! When we run energy through these chips, they give us superpowers by answering questions and making stuff for us.

It blew my mind to realise this when reading a short paper by Sam Altman (co-founder of OpenAI).
